The Burrill Personalized Medicine Meeting
301 Battery Street
San Francisco, CA 94111
The age of personalized medicine has arrived. New drugs and diagnostics for identifying patients most likely to obtain their benefits are revolutionizing healthcare. Our rapidly expanding knowledge of genetics and molecular biology is creating a stronger platform for us to move ahead into a future in which care is more closely tailored than ever before.
Both U.S. and European regulators are embracing this shift, approving therapies such as Roche's melanoma drug Zelboraf and Pfizer's non-small cell lung cancer drug Xalkori. As the traditional blockbuster era draws to a close, we'll still have billion-dollar drugs. But, unlike the one-size-fits-all approach, new contenders for blockbusters status will be developed and prescribed with an understanding of a patient's individual genetics.
Massive new sequencing initiatives, such as that undertaken by China’s BGI, will drive this shift by advancing our knowledge of genetics and molecular biology at a rate heretofore unseen. The anticipated arrival of the $1,000 genome this year will accelerate even further the changes that have begun. As the efficient gather of genomic data becomes a given, we’ll move onto new problems to solve, such as how to draw meaning from the massive amount of new genomic data we gather.
The 8th Annual Burrill Personalized Medicine Meeting provides attendees with a window into this personalized medicine world from where the science had led us to what hurdles need to be overcome and the policies that are required so that personalized medicine becomes a more widely adopted part of our approach to addressing global health issues.
Our agenda features leading authorities across the spectrum of personalized medicine. The meeting encourages participation, frank discussion, and opportunities for attendees to connect with small groups of panelists and expert moderators. This meeting will appeal to:
• Drug/Diagnostics/Tools Developers
• Public Policy/Regulators
