Gabion Box are wire containers made of hexagonal wire netting Wire
diameter varies with the hexagonal nettings. For hexagonal wire
netting without pvc coating, the wire diameter ranges from 2. 0mm
to 4.0mm. For those PVC coated hexagonal wire netting, the outside
diameter ranges from 3.0mm to 4.5mm. The wire of the outside frame
edge is one wire gaueg thicker than the wire used for hexagonal
wire netting.
Gabions are mainly made of four types of materials:
(1) Galvanized steel wire: Excellent low-carbon steel wire,
diameter: 2.0mm-4.0mm, tensile strength: no less than 380Mpa. The
surface adopts hot galvanization for protection. The depth of the
protective galvanized layer (max. 300g/m2) is decided according to
customer demands.
(2) Zinc-5% aluminum-mixed mishmash alloy steel wire: (also called
galfan steel) a new kind of material appearing recently with
corrosion resistance 3 times of traditional pure galvanization;
diameter: 2.0mm-4.0mm; tensile strength: no less than 380Mpa.
(3) Galvanized steel wire with plastic coating: Excellent
low-carbon steel with PVC or PE protective coating on the surface
which will be weaved into various gabions. This protective coating
will greatly increase the protection in high pollution environment.
In addition, the options of different colors enable it merge into
the surrounding environment.
(4) Zinc-5% aluminum-mixed mishmash alloy steel wire: alloy steel
wire with PVC or PE protective coating on the surface which will be
weaved into various gabions. This protective coating will greatly
increase the protection in high pollution environment. In addition,
the options of different colors enable it to merge into the
surrounding environment.

Gabion box are made of double - twisted hexagonal wire mesh. To
fill with stones at the river bank or seaside to stop flood, on the
mountain prevent rock falling.

Advantages of Gabions mesh
Environmentally acceptable - the use of local rock and soils for
backfill is encouraged, with the subsequent growth of vegetative
cover
Flexible - gabions are able to settle and move without failure,
even on unstable soils
Economical - suitable stone is normally found on site or from a
nearby quarry
The gabion basket has a high compressive resistance (rock) and
tensile (mesh) strength
The gabion baskets allow the free passage of water through the
structure, and weep holes are unnecessary
Vegetation can be incorporated within or over the gabion structures
to blend in with the local environment
The integrity of a local ecosystem within a river is unaffected by
gabions as they allow the free flow of water and growth of plants
through their structure
With time the integrity and strength of gabion river protection is
enhanced with the subsequent growth of plants and their root
systems penetrating the porous gabion structure
