GLV-Galvanization

Galvanization is the process of applying a protective zinc coating to steel or iron, to prevent rusting. The most common method is hot-dip galvanizing, in which the parts are submerged in a bath of molten zinc. Zinc can tend to be temperamental during the actual galvanization process. It’s important to take enough time to let galvanized steel cool down, so that the zinc doesn’t peel off. Galvanization isn’t as effective if the zinc is not binding to the steel. The right coating thickness must be applied.

Galvanized flanges are superior to exposure to the elements versus painted carbon steel. They offer longer life cycles in many cases as well, due to their resistance to corrosion from rain and other naturally occurring weather/climate issues.

“JIS” Stands for Japanese Industrial Standard and are published by the Japanese Standards Association (JSA) Provided in JIS2K, JIS5K, JIS10K, JIS16K, JIS20K, JIS30K, JIS40K and JIS63K pressure classes, it can be offered in Slip On, Blind, and Weld Neck varieties in Raised Face or Flat Face configurations.

Face Type-RF Raised Face

The Raised Face flange is the most common type used in process plant applications, and is easily to identify. It is referred to as a raised face because the gasket surfaces are raised above the bolting circle face. This face type allows the use of a wide combination of gasket designs, including flat ring sheet types and metallic composites such as spiral wound and double jacketed types.

The purpose of a RF flange is to concentrate more pressure on a smaller gasket area and thereby increase the pressure containment capability of the joint. Diameter and height are defined by pressure class and diameter. Pressure rating of the flange determines the height of the raised face.
