• Sensor Operation: In hot wire and hot film MAF sensors, the sensing element is heated to a constant temperature. As air flows over the element, it cools it down, causing a change in its resistance or temperature. This change is measured by the sensor and converted into an electrical signal. The ECU uses this signal to determine the mass of air entering the engine.
• Karman Vortex Sensor: Unlike hot wire and hot film sensors, Karman vortex sensors use a different principle to measure air flow. They create a series of alternating vortices in the airflow, and the frequency of these vortices is proportional to the air velocity. The sensor detects these vortices and generates a signal that is used to calculate the air mass flow rate.
