Why Does Electrode Sticking Occur When Welding Galvanized Sheet?
This is because the electrode material used is CuCr or CuCrZr. When
Cu in the material melts at high temperatures during welding, the
zinc (Zn) in the galvanized sheet reacts with Cu to form an alloy
of Cu and Zn, which happens to be the component of the brass alloy.
Therefore, chemical reactions occur, resulting in the loss of
electrode material and the occurrence of adhesion.
How Can We Solve The Bonding Phenomenon That Occurs When Welding
Galvanized Sheets?
a) The best solution is to use dispersion strengthened copper
(CuAl2O3), which is an excellent resistance welding electrode
material with a softening temperature of up to 900 ° C. It has good
conductivity, strength and wear resistance, long service life, and
will not cause adhesion between the electrode and the workpiece.
b) If CuCr or CuCrZr is to be used, a two-stage current welding
method can be used. The spot welding machine must have a two-stage
current output. The first current (smaller) first breaks down the
coating, and the second current only welds the workpiece. This will
firmly weld the workpiece and improve the phenomenon of electrode
adhesion
