The 1746-IM16 SLC 500 Digital AC Input Module by AB is an input
(AC) module with sixteen 200-240V AC inputs and is fitted into any
available SLC 500 I/O chassis using an RTB (Removable Terminal
Block). It has 16 points per common and an input operating voltage
of 170-265V AC at 47-63Hz. It has a backplane current rating of
0.085A at 5V DC and an electrical signal delay of 35ms for ON and
45ms for OFF state around its input points. It has an OFF-state
rating of 50V AC voltage loss and 2mA maximum OFF-state current.
The 1746-IM16 has an input current (nom) of 12mA around each input
points and has a maximum surge current of 1.6A, which can last for
a maximum duration of 0.5ms. It has a maximum power dissipation of
0.35W at each point and the total heat dissipated by the module is
at 6W. It provides voltage isolation between input terminals and
control logic tested at 1500V and is NEMA standard ICS 2-230-rated
for noise immunity. The operating temperature of the 1746-IM16
ranges between 0 and 60 °C (32 and 140 °F) at 5-95%
non-condensing humidity limits and it has a non-operational storage
temperature of -40 and 85 °C (-40 and 185 °F). The 1746-IM16 has
an operational shock withstand of 30G and can sustain an operating
2.5G vibration at 57-200Hz.
The AB 1746-IM16 is an SLC 500 AC input module. This module is
specifically a discrete input module, featuring sixteen (16) input
channels in a single group. Each channel of this input module
operates at an input voltage range of 170-265 Volts AC, 47-63 Hertz
with a nominal input signal of 200 / 240 Volts AC.
This module fits into any SLC 500 chassis. It may be installed in
the local rack, where the SLC 500 processor is installed; to an SLC
500 expansion rack, or as a component module of distributed I/O
systems in larger control systems. It has a backplane current
consumption of 0.085 Amperes @ 5 Volts DC. Each channels exhibits a
signal delay of 35 milliseconds for OFF to ON change of state and
45 milliseconds for ON to OFF transition. It has a maximum
off-state voltage of 50 Volts AC and maximum off-state current of 2
milliamperes. Furthermore, the module’s input current is 12
milliamperes @ 240 Volts AC, nominal and capable of withstanding a
maximum inrush current of 1.6 Amperes with a maximum duration of 5
milliseconds.
This module is ideally used to interface signaling devices that
delivers 200/240 Volts AC towards the input channels of the module.
It may also be used with DC input devices; however, an external
interposing relay must be installed with the AC voltage supplied to
the contacts of the interposing relay. There is no specific limit
to the number of installation instances allowed for this module.
This mainly depends on the number of I/Os the host processor is
capable of accommodating and the embedded memory size.
