Description

Growth-stimulating expression gene 2 protein (ST2), a member of the interleukin-1 receptor family, has two forms: trans-model (ST2L) and soluble (sST2). The binding of ST2L to the functional ligand 1L-33 has a protective effect on the heart, and the increase of sST2 content in the blood can competitively bind to IL-33, block the 1L-33/ST2L signaling pathway, thereby inhibiting the protective effect of ST2L on the heart , the myocardial involvement, cardiac structure and function are affected, increasing the development rate of the disease.

Therefore, when heart failure occurs, the level of sST2 is significantly increased due to the mechanical stretch of the heart, thereby increasing the damage to the heart. As a new-generation marker of heart failure, ST2 has the characteristics of low biological variability, high stability, and no interference by gender, age, race, and renal function. It plays an important role in the diagnosis, treatment and risk prediction of patients with heart failure.

clinical significance

1. sST2 is mainly used for the auxiliary diagnosis of chronic heart failure, and it is of great value in its prognosis evaluation.

2. 35ng/ml is a single exclusion value, below 35ng/ml the possibility of heart failure is very small.

3. The main difference between sST2 and BNP is that it is not affected by other factors, including drugs. It can be used to evaluate whether the treatment is effective from the perspective of indicators, and it can also be used as a readmission risk assessment.

Analysis of results

If the sST2 content of the sample is lower than 35ng/mL, it is regarded as normal;

If it is higher than 35ng/mL, it suggests that the patient may suffer from heart failure.
