Many perinatal diseases can alter blood glucose levels and abnormal blood glucose causes fluctuations in some blood biochemical parameters in cows associated with increased incidence of ketone bodies, impaired liver and kidney function, and mobilisation of body proteins and body lipids, suggesting that monitoring blood glucose levels in cows can help to prevent NEB in cows with timely intervention.
