Botulinum Toxin
Botulinum toxin (BoNT) is a neurotoxic protein produced by the
bacterium Clostridium botulinum and related species. It prevents
the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine from axon endings
at the neuromuscular junction, thus causing flaccid paralysis. The
toxin causes the disease botulism. The toxin is also used
commercially for medical and cosmetic purposes. The seven main
types of botulinum toxin are named types A to G (A, B, C1, C2, D,
E, F and G) New types are occasionally found.Types A and B are
capable of causing disease in humans, and are also used
commercially and medically.Types C–G are less common; types E and F
can cause disease in humans, while the other types cause disease in
other animals. Botulinum toxin types A and B are used in medicine
to treat various muscle spasms. It is also a popular medical
aesthetic method.

Precautions after injection of botulinum toxin
1. Facial massage, hot compress and rubbing are forbidden within
one month after face-lifting with botulinum toxin.
2. Avoid eating hard-shelled foods after face-lifting with
botulinum toxin; fasting spicy and seafood foods, avoiding tobacco
and alcohol within a week.
3. In the early stage of face-lifting with botulinum toxin, chewing
weakness and soreness may occur.
4. Because of chewing habits, there will still be slight asymmetry
on both sides after injection.
5. A small number of people may be insensitive to the drug and the
effect is not obvious, so you should return to the clinic after 2
weeks.
6. Botulinum toxin is recoverable after face-lifting, which means
that it needs to be injected again in theory to maintain the effect
after three to six months.
7. The first injection of botulinum toxin is suitable for early
wrinkles. Although the injection for severe wrinkles for the
elderly is effective, the effect is poor.
8. Do not use cosmetics on the day of botulinum toxin injection. When
injecting, cooperate with the doctor as much as possible to show
the wrinkles clearly.
9. Do not take aspirin or aminoglycoside antibiotics (such as
gentamicin and kanamycin) within 2 weeks before the injection of
botulinum toxin, because they will enhance the toxicity of
botulinum toxin type A.
10. Rest quietly within 4 hours after injection of botulinum toxin.
Keep your body upright. Do not do strenuous activities within 24
hours.
11. Do not massage the area where the botulinum toxin is injected
to prevent the A-type botulinum toxin from spreading to the muscles
in other parts.
