On the LIFEPAK 20 defibrillator/monitor, the Battery is a 3 Ah, 12 V, NiMH battery that is used as an internal backup power source when ac power is not available

AC power is the main power source for the device.

There is an additional battery in the bottom case.

The LIFEPAK 20 defibrillator/monitor uses a 10-cell Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery.

This battery is not designed to be used as a power source. If the main power is interrupted due to a power failure or for any other reason, the backup battery will power the device for at least two hours.

The device also has a coin-cell battery that provides continuous power to the internal clock and other accessories. Battery life is five years. It is not rechargeable and must be replaced at the end of its life.

Charging the Backup Battery

The LIFEPAK 20 defibrillator/monitor has a built-in high-current charger that can charge a fully discharged backup battery in approximately two hours when the unit is connected to AC power. The charger does not charge the battery until one week after charging. until the last full charge or after the battery has been removed and reconnected.

The battery pack is assumed to be in storage when not in use.

The battery pack requires a special handler for storage. Store the battery pack at -20°C to 50°C (-4°F to 122°F) Lower temperatures reduce the initial battery charge.

Dispose of/recycle batteries

The battery has expired. If at least one of the following conditions is met

■ The battery is physically damaged.

■ Battery leakage.

■ The battery cannot be charged.

Warning

Risk of fire, explosion and burns. The battery must not be charged, disassembled, crushed, heated above 100°C (212°F), incinerated or abused.

Battery Replacement

1. Disconnect the device from the AC power source.

2. Position the device from top to bottom.

3. Insert two small flathead screwdrivers into the door handle and press the tabs to remove the Battery Cover (103).

4. Remove and disconnect the A07 battery.

To install an A07 battery:

1. Position the device from top to bottom.

2. Connect battery cable W08 to battery A07.

3. Insert the A07 battery into the battery compartment. (For LIFEPAK 20 batteries, ensure the fuse faces the back of the device.)

NOTE: Insert the A07 battery into the battery compartment with the strap facing the front of the device.

4. Close the Battery Cover (103).
