Square-spot vs. Round spot
When imaging with a round spot, the spot size must match the image
dot size. For instance, at 5080 dpi, the image dot pixel size is
5μm x 5μm, resembling a square area. Using a round light spot with
a 5μm diameter cannot fully expose the four corners of this square
area. To ensure complete exposure, the round spot diameter must be
equivalent to the square area's diagonal length, which is 7.07μm
(1.414 times the dot size).
A 5μm diameter spot size fails to cover the entire square area,
while a 7μm diameter spot causes overlapping exposures, leading to
irregular images with arc-shaped edges.
Some optics developers attempt to find an optimal spot diameter
smaller than 7.07μm, but quality issues persist regardless of the
chosen diameter.
In contrast, a rectangular spot shape allows for a 5μm x 5μm spot
size, which fully exposes the entire square area, ensuring precise
and consistent imaging.
