The function of the automobile camshaft position sensor is to collect the position signal of the valve camshaft and input it into the electronic control unit (ECU). In this way, the ECU can identify the compression top dead center of cylinder 1 to perform sequential injection control, ignition timing control and knock control.

In addition, the camshaft position sensor is used to detect the first ignition moment when the engine is started. It is also called a cylinder identification sensor because it is able to identify which cylinder piston has reached top dead center. The structure and working principle of the camshaft position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor are basically the same, and are generally installed together to achieve intake and exhaust control.
