Impedance matching:
The input impedance of the probe should match the input impedance
of the oscilloscope so as to minimize the load on the circuit under
test. If the impedances do not match, it can cause signal
distortion or test errors.
The input impedance of low-end oscilloscopes with a bandwidth below
500MHz is generally 1MΩ, and the output impedance of high-end
oscilloscopes is generally 50Ω. For low input impedance
oscilloscopes, you should choose active probes or probes with 50Ω
input impedance. For high input impedance oscilloscopes, you should
choose 10:1 probes.
For example, if the input impedance of the oscilloscope is 1MΩ, you
can choose a probe with an input impedance of 10MΩ. The signal
measured by such a probe can be attenuated 10 times, have a small
load effect on the signal being measured, and can match the input
impedance of the oscilloscope.
Load function:
Different types of probes also have different loading effects. In
order to reduce the loading effect of the probe, try to choose a
probe with high input impedance to reduce the impact on the circuit
under test. Passive probes have a smaller loading effect and are
suitable for measuring most signals; active probes have a larger
loading effect, but have better frequency response and signal
fidelity, and are suitable for measuring high-speed and
high-precision signals.
