What is 42CrMo4 (4140) (1.7225) Steel?
42CrMo4 alloy quenched steel, also known as 4140 steel or 1.7225
steel, is a common chromium-molybdenum steel with high density, and
high hardenability, usually used after tempering. 42CrMo4 quenched
steels have better performance than 34CrMo4 steels due to higher
carbon and chromium content. 4140 steel has higher strength and
hardenability in terms of its properties. The properties of AISI
4140 steel include high strength and good low-temperature impact
toughness. Therefore, its machinability is high.
Although it is more expensive than 41Cr4 steel, 4140 is preferred
regarding material properties. 42CrMo4 alloyed engineering steel
materials are widely used in automotive drive elements.
