Vibratory feeders operate on a fundamental principle that can be demonstrated by pouring sand into a funnel and gently tapping it to maintain a continuous flow. These feeders utilize gravity to pull dry materials downward and employ vibrations to facilitate movement from side to side. They are primarily used for dry materials that may not flow smoothly without assistance.

In a vibratory feeder, a substantial amount of material is introduced through a cone-shaped opening at the top and flows out from the narrower bottom. A pill counter exemplifies this type of feeder, where a large quantity of pills is poured into the top opening. Gravity guides the pills downward, and vibrations ensure a smooth flow, preventing any obstructions or blockages. The feeder pauses its operation once the correct number of pills is achieved and resumes when a new bottle is ready for automatic filling.
