About PHiliphh eL18-4 Ultrasound Probe
Today, physicians need the versatility of ultrasound equipment to
meet the expanding range of clinical applications and patient body
habits involved in using ultrasound to diagnose and treat patients.
However, versatility cannot come at the expense of imaging
performance and therefore patient care. Additionally, imaging
facilities are increasingly focused on increasing patient
throughput and the pressure this trend places on the need to reduce
exam times. With this in mind, PHiliphh set out to develop a
solution-focused ultrasound transducer, offering superior image
quality and advanced functionality for a wide range of clinical
options. This single-sensor solution will reduce the need for
multiple sensors, reducing operational costs and increasing
scanning efficiency. The result is the PHiliphh eL18-4 PureWave
linear array sensor.
The eL18-4 sensor incorporates innovative PHiliphh technologies to
support a variety of clinical applications while providing superior
imaging performance and depth of field.
Ultra-wide band
The eL18-4 sensor is an ultra-wideband sensor that can be used in a
wide range of clinical applications as it can generate frequencies
from 2 MHz to 22 MHz (Figure 2). The sensor's performance is
optimized to operate in the most clinically relevant range of 4 MHz
to 18 MHz, which is why it is called the eL18-4 sensor.
PureWave Crystal technology
PHiliphh' introduction of PureWave crystal technology represented
the greatest advance in piezoelectric transducer materials in 40
years. PureWave's uniform crystals convert electrical input to
acoustic output 85% more efficiently than traditional piezoelectric
(PZT) materials. This allows for better penetration in technically
difficult patients and also enables imaging of a wide range of
patients using a single sensor while maintaining excellent detail
resolution and sensitivity to blood flow.
The PureWave crystal technology used in the eL18-4 sensor has been
further optimized for high-frequency, high-power applications.
Technically, this optimization allows PureWave crystals to:
• More resistant to depolarization, allowing higher electric fields
without damage
• Smaller magnetic domains allow the crystal to maintain its
properties when ground into acoustic layers thinner than a human
hair, requiring operation at frequencies up to 22 MHz. Clinically,
this means the new crystal can operate at 2 times the voltage,
providing 4 times the output power. This allows the eL18-4
transducer to achieve excellent penetration while meeting the
requirements of technically demanding ultrasound modalities such as
shear wave elastography.
