The bearing shells have the following main functions:
(1) Support bearing: The bearing shell provides support to the
shaft through its inner diameter, allowing the shaft to rotate
stably without excessive friction and wear.
(2) Guide shaft: The fit between the outer diameter of the bearing
shell and the bearing ensures accurate axial positioning of the
shaft in the correct position, avoiding displacement and shaking of
the shaft.
(3) Relieve friction: The upper ring of the bearing shell is
usually coated with a layer of lubricant, such as lubricating oil
or grease, which can form a lubricating film between the shaft and
the bearing shell, reducing friction and wear.
(4) Load transfer: The bearing pads can withstand radial and axial
forces from the shaft, transferring the load to other components of
the equipment, such as bearings and bases.
