The 1756HP-GPS-IRIGB-IN Timer Module is a timing unit designed for the ControlLogix platform. It is used for providing accurate timing information through the ControlLogix backplane. It can be directly connected into the ControlLogix chassis. The 1756HP-GPS-IRIGB-IN Timer Module offers the facilities to make it possible to configure the time to follow either a local time zone or universal coordinate time. The GPS status information is available across the backplane. This module comes with the input option. All power to the module is derived from the backplane. The status of the GPS data ensures the accuracy of the information and the validity of the GPS data, location, and signal strength. The 1756HP-GPS-IRIGB-IN Timer Module can be ordered as a pre-configured module with an input or output.

The 1756HP-GPS-IRIGB-IN Timer Module can provide GPS information, including position, velocity, and GPS receiver status. It consists of an on-board GPS receiver that is connected to an external active antenna. It can be configured to the ControlLogix I/O by using a lower requested packet interval of 0.5 milliseconds. Its internal GPS receiver provides position updates every second with appropriate accuracy. It provides position data in both polar coordinates and Cartesian coordinates. An external active antenna with an antenna patch lead is supplied with the 1756HP-GPS-IRIGB GPS Timing Module. It provides GPS position and velocity fixes when necessary. It also offers higher precision options to provide reliable operation. The position and the velocity data can be translated into a local coordinate system by changing the base algorithm. It is recommended to locate the module in the same rack as the ControlLogix CPU to obtain the maximum timing accuracy.
