UL 1072 is a standard developed by Underwriters Laboratories (UL)
that covers medium voltage cables for use in power distribution
systems. The standard specifies the construction, materials, and
testing requirements for these cables to ensure their safe and
reliable operation.
"100% insulation" refers to the insulation material used in the
cable, which is expected to provide complete coverage and
protection for the conductors. In the case of 500mcm XLPE
(cross-linked polyethylene) insulation, it means that the
insulation layer completely surrounds the conductors, leaving no
exposed areas.
XLPE is a commonly used insulation material for medium voltage
power cables. It offers excellent electrical properties, thermal
resistance, and moisture resistance, making it suitable for various
applications.
The "PVC sheath" refers to the outer protective layer of the cable.
