MPO/ MTP is a very high-density fiber optic connector. It's only
the double size of LC, but it can contain from 8 fibers to 72
fibers, which greatly saves the space for the data center. The MPO
connection principle is as follows: the same core number connector
must be connected (12 cores with 12 cores, 24 cores with 24 cores,
etc.). One male connector should be connected with a female
connector, and they must have the same polishing type (PC to PC,
APC to APC). If both connectors are female MPO MTP connectors, then
they cannot be connected. Additionally, PC polishing cannot be
connected with APC polishing.
When choosing the MPO patch cord, users should be aware of the
gender and polarity of the MPO MTP patch cord in your data center.
For example, if the MPO MTP connector is a male type, then users
should purchase a female type MPO MTP patch cord so that they can
be connected together.
Features:
Commonly, round cable is 3.0mm in diameter. Apart from that, flat
cables, 4.5mm double shealth cables and armoured cables can also be
found. As for MPO/MTP patch cords, there are three types referred
to as A type, B type and C typeaccording to the fiber arrangement.
Plus, there are two types of MPO/MTP Connectors, namely, male
connector with pin and female connector without pin. As for the
fiber type, it can vary from single-mode (G652D, G657A1, G657A2) to
multi-mode (OM3, OM4, OM5).
Regarding the MPO/MTP connector, the insertion loss type can be
divided into two types which are Standard and Elite/Low Loss.
Moreover, it can have different fibre numbers, such as
4/8/12/16/24/32/48.
