Brief Introduction of Geocell Confinement System
Geocell is a net cell structure formed by high strength HDPE
broadband and strong welding. It can stretch freely, shrink and
fold when transporting, open and fill with earth rock or concrete
material when in use, forming a structure with strong lateral
restriction and large stiffness. It can be used as cushion to deal
with soft foundation and increase the bearing capacity of
foundation. It can also be laid on the slope to form slope
protection structure. It can also be used to build retaining
structure.

The geocell is made of a number of polyethylene plates welded
together. The sheet thickness is 0.8-1.5mm, the service life is
70-100 years, and the construction environment is 70 ℃ to - 40 ℃.

Geocell Confinement System working principle
The principle of geocell is a honeycomb three-dimensional limit
system, which may significantly improve the function of individual
filling data in bearing in a large scope. Its principle is
three-dimensional limit. Under the action of concentrated load, the
active area is compressed and sunk, and the force is decomposed to
both sides and transferred to the transition area, and the moderate
area is transferred to the passive area. The passive area will
deform and uplift
Geocell Confinement System Characteristic
The geocell is light in material, wear-resistant, strong in
chemical function, resistant to light and oxygen aging, acid and
alkali resistance, which is applicable to different soil and desert
soil conditions. Geocell is a kind of three-dimensional reticulated
cell structure, which is made of REINFORCED HDPE sheet material and
highly welded. High lateral limit with anti-skid, anti deformation,
effectively strengthen the bearing capacity of subgrade and
evacuation load.
Application of Geocell Confinement System:
1, Treatment of half filling and half subgrade: when building
embankment on the slope with natural gradient of 1:5, steps shall
be excavated at the base of embankment, and the width of steps
shall not be less than 1m. When widening the road by stages or
reconstruction, steps shall be excavated at the junction of new and
old subgrade filling slopes. The width of steps for high-grade
highway is generally 2m, and geocells shall be laid on the
horizontal surface of each step The reinforcement effect of its own
facade can better solve the problem of uneven settlement.
2. Subgrade in windy sand area: the subgrade in windy sand area
shall be mainly low embankment, and the filling height shall not be
less than 0.3m. Due to the special and industrial requirements of
Low Subgrade and heavy load-bearing of Subgrade in windy sand area,
the use of geocell can limit the loose filler, ensure the subgrade
has high stiffness and strength within the limited height, so as to
bear the load stress of large vehicles.
3. Reinforcement of subgrade fill behind abutment: geocell can
better realize the purpose of abutment back reinforcement. Enough
friction force can be generated between geocell and filler, which
can effectively reduce the uneven settlement between subgrade and
structure. Finally, it can be effective and slow to solve the early
impact damage of bridge deck caused by "abutment bump" disease
4. Subgrade in Permafrost Region: the minimum filling height shall
be reached when filling subgrade is built in permafrost area, so as
to prevent excessive settlement of embankment due to frost boiling
or falling of upper limit of frozen layer. Geogrid has the effect
of vertical reinforcement and effective implementation of the
overall lateral limit, which can largely ensure the height of small
fill in some special sections, and make the fill have high-quality
strength and stiffness.
5. Treatment of loess collapsible subgrade: for expressways and
class I and class I highways passing through collapsible loess and
loess section with better compressibility, or when the allowable
bearing capacity of high embankment foundation is lower than the
pressure of vehicle cooperative load and embankment self weight,
the subgrade shall be treated according to the bearing capacity
requirements, and then the superiority of geocell is obvious.
6. Saline soil, expansive soil: Highway constructed by saline soil
and expansive soil, highway of first class, road shoulder and slope
are reinforced. The facade reinforcement effect of the cell is one
of the excellent reinforcement materials, and it has excellent
corrosion resistance, which can fully meet the requirements of high
highway construction in saline soil and expansive soil.
