The directional coupler is a kind of microwave device widely used
in microwave systems. Its essence is to distribute the power of the
microwave signal according to a certain ratio.
Directional converters are composed of transmission lines. Coaxial
lines, rectangular waveguides, circular waveguides, strip lines and
microstrip lines can all constitute directional converters.
Therefore, there are many types of directional converters from the
structural point of view, and there are great differences. But from
the perspective of its conversion mechanism, it is mainly divided
into different ones, namely small hole supplement, parallel
supplement, branch replacement and matching double T.
A directional coupler is an element that places two transmission
lines close enough and where the power of one line can be exchanged
to the other line. The signal amplitudes of its two output ports
can be changed or unequal. A particularly widely used supplementer
is a 3dB supplementer. The amplitudes of the output signals of the
two output ports of this supplementer are similar.
