Five things to keep you from burning your motor
1. Keep the motor clean. During the operation of the motor, there
must be no dust, water stains, and debris within 3 meters of the
air inlet. Otherwise, once it is sucked into the motor, it will
form a short-circuit medium or damage the wire insulation, causing
a short circuit between the boxes and burning the motor. Therefore,
to ensure the safe operation of the motor, it is necessary to keep
the motor and its surroundings clean so that the motor can maintain
a safe and stable working state during long-term operation.
2. Ensure that the motor always works at rated current
Motor overload operation is mainly caused by too much drag load,
low voltage, or mechanical jam caused by driving. If the overload
time is too long, the motor will absorb a large amount of active
power from the grid. As a result, the current will increase
rapidly, and the temperature will rise accordingly, which will
easily cause the motor to burn out. Therefore, it is necessary to
ensure that the motor always works at the rated current and pay
attention to checking the operation of the transmission device, the
concentricity of the coupling, and the gear transmission.
3． Pay attention to checking the temperature of the motor. Workers
should always check the temperature of the bearing, stator, and
housing of the motor. Especially for motors without voltage,
current, and frequency monitoring and without overload protection,
they should pay more attention to monitoring the temperature rise.
Too high, you should stop the inspection immediately. In addition,
the rolling elements of the bearing, the surface of the raceway,
the bearing clearance, etc., need to be checked regularly. If any
abnormality occurs, you must renew the bearing before the
operation.
4． Observe the motor for vibration, noise, and abnormal odor. If
the motor vibrates, the concentricity of the load part connected to
it will increase. Increasing the motor load will overload the motor
and burn it. Noise and odor are precursors to motor failure and
must be watched at all times. Therefore, during the operation of
the motor, especially the high-power maintenance network motor, it
is necessary to frequently check to see if the motor end cover,
anchor bolts, bearing glands, etc. have become loose, etc., once
the problem is found, you must resolve it in time.
5． To ensure the normal operation of the starting equipment,
Generally speaking, the quality of the starting equipment
determines whether the motor can start normally. According to
previous experience, most of the burned motors are caused by the
abnormal operation of the starting equipment, such as lack of phase
of the starting equipment, arcing of the contactor contacts, and
ignition. So how to maintain the startup equipment? It is mainly
cleaning and tightening. For example, the contactor contacts are
not clean, which will increase the contact resistance, cause the
maintenance network to burn and burn the contacts, and then burn
the motor. Therefore, always pay attention to the cleaning and
tightening of the starting equipment. In addition, the electrical
control cabinet should be set in a dry, ventilated, and
easy-to-operate position and regularly dust-removed.
