3, 5-xylenol is an important intermediate for organic synthesis,
widely used as raw material of resin, pesticide, medicine, dye and
fragrance. In China, 3, 5-xylenol is chlorinated into 4-Chloro-3,
5-dimethylphenol (PCMX), which is one kind of high efficient
disinfectant and antiseptic for detergents such as soap and liquid
soap. Its aminated product is 3, 5-dimethylaniline, a material of
top-grade dyes. 3, 5-xylenol can react with methanol to produce 2,
3, 5-trimethylphenol, a material of drugs. It can also react with
DMDS to produce 3, 5-Dimethyl-4-(methylthio) phenol, a material of
carbamate insecticide. Moreover, it is the additive of cold rolling
oil of cold rolling steel and top-grade non-toxic fire-resistant
turbine oil, to improve the life of cold rolling oil and turbine
oil. Recently, it is being used in the synthesis of high efficient
and broad-spectrum antibacterial drugs.
