The rolling diaphragm is shaped like a top hat in the free state.
It is made of rubber with silk cloth. The middle hole on the top is
used for installing the valve stem. In order to fit, fix and seal,
the top and bottom can be equipped with 0 type edge changer, or the
bottom surrounding with mounting hole.
Compared with the rubber corrugated diaphragm used in regulating
valves, the rolling diaphragm has a higher pressure resistance.
Almost all the pressure load of the rolling diaphragm is supported
by the piston, and only a small part of the liquid pressure or gas
pressure is supported by the narrow area of the diaphragm, so the
rolling diaphragm can obtain greater pressure bearing capacity and
higher thrust.

In the design of some medium and low pressure regulators, in order
to solve the problem of unbalanced pressure regulating valve disc
and improve the performance of the pressure regulator, the method
of installing a balance diaphragm is often used. When a balancing
diaphragm is installed, the differential pressure between the inlet
pressure and the outlet pressure of the regulator can be increased.
In the regulator industry, it is called a balance diaphragm in
terms of use, and it is called a rolling diaphragm in the rubber,
instrument, machinery and other industries.

For the present, common materials for rolling diaphragm are:
natural rubber (NR), nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), the
performance of the two materials can meet the needs of most
industrial environments. In special industrial environments (high
temperature resistance, acid and alkali resistance) could use EPDM,
fluorine rubber (FKM), neoprene rubber (CR) for production, but the
cost is relatively high.
