Introduction:

Natural rubber is an elastic material that was originally derived from the milky sap or latex of some tropical plants (specifically the rubber tree). Natural rubber, also referred to as “gum rubber”, has many positive characteristics. It has superior resilience, high resistance to tear and abrasion, tensile strength, good compression set, and molding properties. Natural rubber is soft and displays good flexing qualities at low temperatures. It also has the ability to bond well to other materials such as metal. Natural rubber is non-toxic, non-marking, and resistant to water, acids, alcohol, organic salts, and alkalis. Natural rubber should not be used in applications that involve petroleum derivatives or exposure to chemicals. Natural rubber functions well in temperatures ranging from -60°F to +175°F.

The main products of rubber sealing gaskets are: silicone pads, nitrile rubber pads, fluorine rubber pads, and other rubber pads.

Natural (Pure Gum) Rubber Die Cut Gaskets
Custom Gasket Mfg. provides die cut natural (gum) rubber gaskets in a wide variety of grades, thicknesses and hardness. The standard thickness of natural rubber ranges from 1/64″ to 2″ thick. The hardness (durometer) of natural rubber ranges from 40 to 60 durometer, Shore A. Die cut natural rubber gaskets are generally tan or black in color with the exception of our premium grade “red” gum natural rubber, which is used when an optimum combination of tear and abrasion resistance are required. Natural rubber gaskets are available with or without pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) backing.

Molded Natural Rubber Gaskets

Hongum specializes in molded natural rubber gaskets and seals. Our custom natural rubber molding capabilities include Compression Molding, Transfer Molding, and Rubber Injection Molding. Natural rubber (NR) compounds are available from 20 to 90 durometer, Shore A. Natural rubbers color ranges from translucent (soft) to black (hard), and custom color compounding is available upon request. Natural rubber molding tolerances are complaint with rubber molding industry standard RMA A2 Precision tolerances.
