The hub is the part of a wind turbine that connects the blades to
the main shaft. and ultimately to the rest of the drive train. The
hub transmits and must withstand all the loads generated by the
blades.The hub is subject to high mechanical loads, as it needs to
transfer to the main shaft the torque produced from each blade as
well as the trust force.
Large wind turbines are basically always using cast iron hubs, with
a flange connection to the main shaft. As the part comes out in one
single piece, not having the stress concentrations generated by the
welding process.

difficult processing. Generally ductile iron castings, made of
QT400-18AL, have strict requirements in terms of mechanical
properties, metallographic structure, and chemical composition.
They must undergo ultrasonic and magnetic particle inspections, and
no shrinkage, cracks, cracks, pores, and slag inclusion defects are
allowed.
