1. Introduction of ball mill end cover castings and forgings
The end cover of the ball mill is one of the main parts of the ball
mill produced by our factory. End cover material is ZG270-500.
The strength of the dangerous section of the ball mill end cover is
the first problem to be considered in the design of the end cover,
because the rather heavy ball mill barrel is supported on the main
bearing by the end cover.
The ball mill end cover is generally slightly conical, which is
designed to take into account the configuration of the main
bearing, the bending resistance of the journal and the problem of
avoiding big gear touching the foundation of the main bearing. The
end cover of large and medium-sized ball mill is mostly made of
cast steel, while the small ball mill is made of ductile iron. In
order to ensure the concentricity of the axis of the end cover and
the cylinder, the end cover and the journal are usually cast into
one. But in the case of smelting and casting equipment capacity is
not enough, they can also be cast separately, after processing,
they are fastened together, and finally mechanical processing.
When determining the journal part of the end cover, it must be
considered in advance that the ball mill is driven by gears
(straight teeth, helical teeth or miter teeth). Due to the
horizontal error of the axis during installation, the ball mill may
produce some axial forces during operation. Therefore, in order to
prevent the cylinder from moving in axial direction under the
action of axial forces and affect the normal operation of the gear,
it is required to fix the journal. In this case, however, the
possibility of expansion must be made possible, as the barrel
extends as a result of heat, and as the load becomes difficult.
Thus, of course, the two journals of the cylinder cannot be fixed
at the same time, but only one can be fixed and the other is called
the movable free end.
