ASTM A182 is the Standard Specification for Forged Stainless Steel Pipe
Flanges and Stainless Steel Forged Fittings.
ASTM 182 is use in pressure systems, Included are flanges, fittings
and similar parts to specified dimensions or to dimensional
standards, such as the ASME specifications.
ASTM A182 Flange is a method of connecting pipes, valves, pumps and other equipment
to form a piping system. It also provides easy access for cleaning,
inspection or modification. Flanges are usually welded or screwed.
Flanged joints are made by bolting together two flanges with a
gasket between them to provide a seal.
Stainless steel is an alloy of Iron with a minimum of 10.5%
Chromium. Chromium produces a thin layer of oxide on the surface of
the steel known as the 'passive layer'. This prevents any further
corrosion of the surface. Increasing the amount of Chromium gives
an increased resistance to corrosion.
Stainless steel also contains varying amounts of Carbon, Silicon
and Manganese. Other elements such as Nickel and Molybdenum may be
added to impart other useful properties such as enhanced
formability and increased corrosion resistance.
