TECHNOLOGY OF CO-EXTRUSION
Co-extrusion put simply, is "a tube within a tube." How that
happens is as the inside tube is being formed, the outside tube is
being formed too. The result is that the two tubes become one. The
process has been around for a while. In fact, the colored stripes
that are common on drinking straws get there through a coextrusion
process. Though the process is not new, LANGBO machinery’s
technology development and experience in the fluid power industry,
make this a groundbreaking announcement.
THE FUTURE OF CO-EXTRUSION
Although compound plastic products have already found multiple
applications in the multi-color extrusion, multi-layer pipe, and
energy industries, co-extrusion continues to expand its functional
range. Since the effectiveness of its products depends on the
combination of plastics used in the process, discovering viable
mixtures will shape co-extrusion applications in the future.
COEXTRUDED STRUCTURAL UNITS
Plastic is sometimes used as a substitute for wood. Manufacturers
can create decking, boat docks, fences and dimensional components
with “plastic lumber,” which has some advantages over natural wood.
Co-extrusion is a cost-effective method of fabricating many of
these artificial materials. It can add titanium dioxide, a weather
resistant material, to exterior structural plastics or produce
decking with an inner layer of recycled plastic.
