CarPlay was launched in 2014, but was based on the pre-existing
"iPod Out" functionality, co-developed by Apple and automakers
several years earlier. In a most of the car, iPod Out made it
possible to plug an iPod into your car system and listen to your
music collection through your vehicle's stereo system. At the same
time, the current track or playlist could be shown on your screen,
and controlling your iPod — skipping tracks, for example — could be
done with your vehicle's native multimedia controls.
Though CarPlay lets you run many of the same familiar apps you
might already be using on your iPhone, the system is optimized for
in-car use. That means a new menu design that's better suited to
use behind the wheel. CarPlay does support touchscreens in
compatible vehicles, but the system works equally well with the
buttons and knobs found on most cars' dashboards.

convenience, control and switch between apps with your vehicle's
built-in controls, or with your voice thanks to Siri at just a
press of the Voice Command button.

answer calls just like with a Bluetooth hands-free connection.All
controls can be done on your car's screen with a touch of OEM
buttons leaving your phone in your pocket.
Integration with Front and Rear View Cameras
The LEADSIGN CarPlay Interface module makes it easy to add front
and reversing cameras to your order for a much lower price. The
front view camera can easily be activated by holding the Option
button for 2 seconds. To exit camera mode, just press Back. It can
also be set up to appear automatically for up to 10 seconds when
shifting from Reverse to Drive. The system also supports OEM (PDC)
Parking Distance Control - parking radar and Dynamic Guidelines
will be shown in the LCD while in Reverse.
High-quality audio with an equalizer
The audio output circuit in the LEADSIGN CarPlay Interface has been
specifically selected to squeeze all the quality we can out of the
Audi AUX input, providing great audio quality for music, streaming
and calls.

► Our CarPlay retrofit also uses the factory car microphone for
Siri voice commands; This means that you can access your iTunes
library, learn the latest news or send texts hands-free. For this
feature to work, your BMW has to have Bluetooth or Voice Control;
