Requirements:
Faults in the product such as fault currents flowing through the
leakage path, overheating of components or parts, poor contact,
etc. may cause a flame, which may then be directed to nearby parts.
The needle flame test simulates the internal part of the product. A
small flame is generated under fault conditions and the risk of
ignition is assessed using simulation techniques. For small parts
(or components) Glow-wire test or horizontal-vertical combustion
test method is not suitable, can be cited needle flame test method.
If the test sample is ignited during the glow-wire test, the
resulting combustion hazard is subject to a needle-flame test.
