Introduction

Wire drawing oil annealing is to heat the cold deformed metal to enhance the atomic activity force, promote the growth of crystal nucleus and form grains, so as to change its microstructure and properties. This change process has the following three stages:

1. Recover phase

When the heating temperature is not high (lower than the minimum recrystallization temperature), the atomic activity is still low. Although there is small movement, it can not cause obvious changes in the structure.

Because the atoms can move for a short distance, the lattice distortion is greatly reduced, and the internal stress is greatly reduced. However, the metal structure has no obvious change, so the mechanical properties have little change. This stage is called recovery stage, also known as internal stress relief annealing.

2. Recrystallization

When the cold deformed metal is heated to a higher temperature, due to the enhancement of atomic activity, some equiaxed small grains with different lattice orientation and less internal defects (the diameter in each direction is roughly the same) are formed.

These small grains continue to expand and grow into the surrounding deformation structure until the cold deformation structure of the metal disappears, re deforms into equiaxed crystallization, and reduces its stress at the same time. This process is called metal recrystallization.

After recrystallization, the lattice distortion and other defects and internal stress caused by cold deformation are completely eliminated, so the strength and hardness are reduced, the conductivity is increased, the plasticity and toughness are greatly improved, and the cold work hardening state is completely eliminated.

3. Aggregation recrystallization

When the recrystallization process of cold deformed metals is just completed, fine and uniform new equiaxed grains can be obtained. With the excessive increase of heating degree or the excessive extension of holding time, the recrystallized grains will swallow each other and grow up, making the grains coarsen and the mechanical properties deteriorate accordingly. This process is called aggregation recrystallization.

The mechanical properties of this coarse-grained metal also deteriorate accordingly. Therefore, too high heating temperature or too long holding time can cause metal "overburning" or "overheating". It leads to the reduction of strength, especially plasticity and impact toughness, and brittle fracture.
