SAE 4140 alloy steel round bar's chromium content provides good
hardness penetration, and the molybdenum imparts uniformity of
hardness and high strength. This alloy responds well to heat
treatment. In the annealed condition it machines at 110 sfm. It
also has good wear resistance, toughness, and good ductility in the
quenched and tempered condition. This grade can also be supplied as
turned ground and polished for tighter dimensional tolerances for
bearing fitting applications.

Feature:

Appliation:
Production load large, complex shape and valuable tool (e.g,
scraper, gear, milling cutter, drilling, tapping, etc.)Cold forging
die, forging tools;Strip cutting machine, heading forming die.

Heat Treatment
1) Forging
Preheat the steel carefully, then raise the temperature to
1150-1200°C for forging. Do not forge below 850°C.
2)Annealing
Heat the AISI 4140 slowly to 800-850°C and allow enough time for
the steel to be thoroughly heated. Cool slowly in the furnace to
480°C followed by air cooling.
