Economizer Description

Economizer is a device installed in the lower part of the boiler tail flue for recycling the waste heat of the exhaust smoke, heating the boiler feed water into the heating surface of saturated water under the steam drum pressure, because it absorbs the heat of high temperature flue gas, reduces the exhaust temperature of flue gas, saves energy and improves efficiency, so it is called the economizer.

Tubular economizer is not limited by pressure and can be used as a boiling type. It is generally made of carbon steel pipe with an outer diameter of 32 ~ 51 mm.Fins are added to the tube to improve heat transfer.The tubular economizer consists of parallel curved pipes (known as serpentines) arranged horizontally.

The spiral finned tube is formed by welding the steel strip on the bare tube along the spiral track by high-frequency welding method. The spiral finned tube through fin material winding process and high frequency welding, can make the fin and tube pressure melting as a whole, the contact thermal resistance of approximate 0, and can withstand the alternating thermal stress. No deformation after welding, so as not to weaken the bearing capacity of the base pipe, is conducive to heat transfer from the fin to the inner wall of the base pipe.The serpentine pipe wound by the sprial finned pipe (the elbow part has no finned) is composed of the tube group as the heating surface of the economizer, that is, the sprial finned economizer.

Application

During boiler operation in typical commercial and industrial applications, approximately 10-20% of the heating value of fuel is expelled with the stack gases to the atmosphere. Stack economizers are designed to recover significant amounts of this stack gas energy loss, thereby vastly improving boiler system efficiency. There are several considerations when selecting an economizer:

• Gas-side Pressure Drop. Added back-pressure on the boiler stack affects the combustion air fan throughput capability. The economizer and combustion air fan(s) must be sized properly in order to assure a suitable system operation and capacity.

• Feedwater Temperature. The feedwater to the economizer must be deaerated and the temperature setpoint minimally at 220oF to prevent tube corrosion.

• Water-side Pressure Drop. Feedwater pumps must be sized to accommodate the economizer pressure drop. Additionally, a continuous modulating feedwater system is required to ensure proper flow rates through the economizer.
