Manufactured by GE Automation and Controls, the IC697CPU771 is a
single-slot, Expandable Programmable Logic Controller CPU capable
of controlling industrial machinery and processes in real-time. To
communicate with I/O and “smart option” modules, a rack-mounted
backplane is used.
The IC697CPU771 has a 12MHz 80C186 microprocessor capable of 0.4
microseconds per Boolean function. This device supports up to 8K
analog I/O and any mixture of 2K I/O. This device also supports a
variety of smart option modules, including IC697 LAN Interface
modules, coprocessor modules, communications modules, IC660 and
IC661 bus controller I/O modules, and discrete and analog IC697 I/O
modules.
The IC697CPU771 is configured by MS-DOS or by software programs
running from either Windows 95 or Windows NT operating systems.
Neither DIP switches nor jumpers are used for device programming.
Connect the device to a computer running the previously mentioned
software by means of a serial, parallel, or Ethernet interface. For
security, device configuration is password-protected.
The IC697CPU771 requires a memory expansion board to store user and
program data. This expansion board is capable of holding up to 512
kilobytes of memory. Memory is maintained by an on-board CMOS
battery. Initialization of the CPU by an attached programmer
computer is required when installing the memory expansion board.
Operation of this device is accomplished with either a
three-position control switch or by a computer running the
appropriate software. For precise installation and safety
guidelines, see the product manual. Ensure that rack power is
disconnected before installing. The three-position switch must be
in the stop position. Connect the memory expansion board. The CMOS
battery may be inserted into either of the battery connection
slots. Then insert the device into slot one of the rack. Reconnect
power to the rack. The device is now ready to program.
About IC697CPU771
The IC697CPU771 module is an expandable CPU module for GE Fanuc
Series 90-70 PLCs. Program and data memory of up to 512 kilobytes
of CMOS RAM can be supported by the attachment of an expansion
memory board. The CMOS expansion memory board provides RAM capacity
options of 64, 128, 256, or 512 KB. The lithium battery (catalog
number IC697ACC701) is located on the main CPU board. The
installation of the CMOS RAM board on the IC697CPU771 module
requires the initialization of the module with a programmer. The
installers must refer to the relevant installation manual to ensure
proper installation. The PLC rack power should be switched off
prior to installation. The sequence of steps required for module
installation are as follows: install the expansion memory, connect
the battery to the battery connector, turn the toggle switch to
"Stop" position, install the IC697CPU771 module in Slot 1, and
finally turn on the PLC power.
The GE Fanuc Series 90-70 IC697CPU771 module uses an 80C186
microprocessor clocked at 12 megahertz. Up to 8000 analog I/O and a
total of 2000 I/O in any mix are supported. The IC697CPU771 module
is programmed with Windows or MS-DOS based software. The Windows
software is compatible with the Windows 95 or Windows NT operating
system. Communication between systems running the configuration
software and the IC697CPU771 module can be over Ethernet or the
integrated serial port. The 15-pin D-type connector provides
connections to an RS-485 compatible serial port. The serial
connection can be made from the serial port on the IC697CPU771
module to the serial port on the programming computer through the
RS-422/RS-485 to RS-232 converter or the RS-232 to RS-422
miniconverter.
