CysC overview
Cysteinase proteinase inhibitor (CPI) is named cystatin C. Cystatin
C in circulation is removed only through glomerular filtration,
which is an endogenous marker reflecting the change of glomerular
filtration rate, and reabsorbed in the proximal convoluted tubules,
but is metabolized and decomposed completely after reabsorption,
and does not return to blood. Therefore, the concentration of
cystatin C in the blood is determined by glomerular filtration
rate, and does not depend on any external factors, such as gender,
age and diet, It is an ideal endogenous marker reflecting the
change of glomerular filtration rate.
