4V310-08 1/4 Inch 5/2 Way Single Coil Pilot Pneumatic Solenoid
Valve
The 5/2 valve will have two actuator ports connected to the air
actuator ports. When compressed air is supplied to the 5/2 valve,
it will pass through the valve. However, air will flow to only one
of the two actuator ports. The other actuator port will then open
the exhaust, allowing air to escape from the side of the air
actuator piston, as the compressed air supply will flow into the
other actuator port.
As the 5/2 valve operates, the slide or lift spool in the valve
moves. The compressed air is then directed to another actuator
port. The previously charged line is then directed to the
atmosphere, making it an exhaust line from the actuator to the
atmosphere.
As the valve moves, the actuator rod is alternately extended or
retracted. Hence, the term "double action".
The original position of the actuator (whether the rod is stretched
out or retracted, or, if the actuator is rotated, in one direction
or another) will depend on the requirements of the air loop. Valve
5/2 is plumbed to ensure that air is supplied to the appropriate
actuator port to achieve the desired lever position when the air
valve is stationary.
