The KVP is mounted in the suction line after the evaporator.It is used to:

1. Maintain a constant evaporating pressure and thereby a constant surface temperature on
The evaporator. The regulation is modulating. By throttling in the suction line, the amount of refrigerant gas is matched to the evaporator load.

2. Protect against too low an evaporating pressure (e. G. As protection against freezing in a water chiller). The regulator closes when the pressure in the evaporator falls below
The set value.

3. The KVP are also used to differentiate the evaporating pressures in two or more evaporators in systems with one compressor.

Capacity Regulators

A capacity regulator is used for the adaption of the compressor Capacity to the actual evaporator load.

They are placed in a by-pass between high and low pressure sides Of the refrigeration plant.

In this position they impose a downward Limit on the compressor suction pressure by supplying the low Pressure side with replacement duty in the form of hot gas/cool Gas from the high-pressure side.
