A horizontal roof beam perpendicular to a truss or rafter and used
to support rafters or roofing materials. A transversely bent
(usually bi-directional) member, usually designed as a single-span,
simple-supported purlin.Common purlins are solid web type and light
steel truss type.
Purlins can be divided into two main purlins and secondary purlins.
The primary purlin is installed on the roof and the column beams of
the external wall structure, and the secondary purlin is used to
connect the roof board and the external wall board to the
foundation structure. The primary and secondary purlins are the
main structural components commonly used in modern steel structure
design.
