Ketoconazole cream is a topical antifungal agent that contains
Ketoconazole which is an imidazole-dioxolane antimycotic agent that
has a broad spectrum of activity against dermatophytes, yeasts and
other pathogenic fungi.
Composition
Each tube 30g contains 600mg of Ketoconazole.
Indications
Ketoconazole Cream is indicated in fungal infections of the skin
which includes tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea pedis, cutaneous
candidosis, tinea versicolor and seborrheic dermatitis.
Dosage and administration
Ketoconazole Cream should be applied to the affected part of the
skin once or twice daily to cover the affected area and the
immediate surrounding.
Treatment should be continued for a sufficient period at least a
few days after the disappearance of all symptoms.
The usual duration of treatment is: tinea versicolor 2-3weeks,
yeast infections 2-3 weeks, tinea cruris 2-4 weeks, tinea corporis
3-4 weeks, seborrheic dermatitis 2-4 weeks and maintenance dose is
once or twice daily in this case.
Contraindications
Ketoconazole Cream is contraindicated in individuals with a known
hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients.
Side effects
A few instance of irritation and burning sensation may be observed
during treatment with Ketoconazole Cream. Also in rare
circumstances, allergic skin reactions such as contact dermatitis
may be observed. Others are rash, urticarial, pruritus, erythema
and very rarely hypersensitivity reactions.
Warnings and precaution
Ketoconazole Cream is not intended for ophthalmic use.
Pregnancy and lactation
There are no known risks associated with the use of Ketoconazole
Cream in pregnant women or lactating mothers.
Overdosage
Symptoms: Exaggerated topical application may lead to erythema,
oedema and a burning sensation which will disappear upon
discontinuation of the treatment.
Treatment
No special measures need be taken in this case just discontinue
therapy.
Storage
store in a cool dry place away from moisture. For external use
only. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
