Tube heat exchanger key Features:

Shell: The large outer vessel that contains one fluid (the "shell-side fluid").

U-Tubes: A bundle of tubes bent into a U-shape. A second fluid (the "tube-side fluid") flows through these.

Tube Sheet: A single, thick metal plate drilled with a precise pattern of holes. Both the inlet and outlet legs of the U-tubes are attached to this same tube sheet.

Stationary Channel/Head: The chamber at the front where the tube-side fluid enters and exits. It contains a crucial part called the bonnet or head, which is split by a partition (baffle). This partition directs the incoming fluid into the tubes and keeps it separate from the outgoing fluid.

Baffles: Plates placed inside the shell. They serve two main purposes:

They support the long, U-shaped tubes to prevent vibration.

They force the shell-side fluid to flow back and forth across the tube bundle, increasing heat transfer efficiency.
