Radiator outlet hose OE LR144560 Water tank coolant hose for Land
Rover Traction battery cooling pipe
Product Description:
Radiator coolant water hose
OE NO.: LR144560 LR144561
Applicable vehicle type: For Land Rover
Radiator coolant hoses (also known as radiator hoses) are rubber
hoses in a vehicle's cooling system that connect the radiator to
the engine. They are used to circulate engine coolant (antifreeze)
throughout the cooling system. Typically composed of inner and
outer rubber layers (the inner layer being coolant-resistant
synthetic rubber, the outer layer being anti-aging rubber material)
along with a reinforcement layer, they offer excellent flexibility
and pressure resistance. Common radiator hoses are categorized into
upper and lower hoses: the upper hose connects to the engine's
inlet port at one end and the radiator's upper chamber at the
other, forming an engine “bottom-in, top-out” and radiator “top-in,
bottom-out” cooling water circulation loop. Some vehicles also
feature additional coolant hoses, such as heater hoses (connecting
the radiator to the heater core for cabin heating), though their
basic structure and function remain similar.
Over time, radiator coolant hoses may develop various faults. If
not addressed promptly, these issues can lead to coolant leaks,
engine overheating, or even severe damage. Common failure modes
include:
- Coolant Leakage: Leaks may occur when hoses age or fittings loosen.
Typical signs include coolant dripping from hose surfaces or
joints, or coolant stains on the ground. Leaks reduce coolant
levels, potentially causing engine overheating due to insufficient
fluid. Inspect hoses for leaks if you notice abnormal coolant
consumption or green, yellow, or orange fluid stains on the ground.
- Hose Bulging or Blistering: Prolonged exposure to high temperatures
and aging can degrade the internal structure of rubber hoses,
causing bulging or softened areas on the surface. Hose bulging is a
dangerous sign indicating damage to the inner rubber layer. If it
ruptures, it can lead to coolant leakage or hose collapse. Bulging
typically occurs at bends or areas compressed by clamps. Replace
damaged hoses immediately.
- Hose Cracks: Rubber gradually cracks due to UV exposure, ozone, and
temperature fluctuations. Fine cracks may appear on the outer layer
of coolant hoses, potentially causing coolant leakage. Stress
concentration at bends and clamp locations makes these areas
particularly prone to cracking. Replace hoses with visible cracks,
even minor ones, to prevent expansion and leakage.
- Hose Loosening or Detachment: As hoses age, the rubber may become
loose or lose elasticity, compromising the seal between the hose
and its fitting. Under pressure or vacuum conditions generated
during engine operation, the hose may loosen or detach from the
fitting, causing coolant leakage and engine overheating. If any
signs of loosening at the fitting are observed, the hose should be
tightened or replaced promptly.
- Hose Collapse: The lower radiator hose, connected to the water pump
inlet, experiences vacuum suction during pump operation. If the
internal reinforcement spring deteriorates or breaks, the hose may
collapse under vacuum pressure, obstructing coolant flow. This
prevents proper coolant circulation, causing rapid engine
temperature rise. Collapsed hoses typically become more noticeable
during high-speed driving or high-RPM operation and may return to
normal after engine cooldown. If hose collapse is detected, the
hose must be replaced to prevent cooling system failure.
- Hose Overheating Damage:When cooling system malfunctions occur
(e.g., thermostat failure causing excessive water temperature),
coolant temperatures may abnormally rise beyond the hose's
tolerance limit, leading to overheating damage. Overheated hoses
become brittle and cracked on the surface, potentially rupturing
under high temperatures. Additionally, prolonged operation in
high-temperature environments accelerates hose aging.
- Hose Aging and Hardening: Rubber naturally degrades over time,
manifesting as hose hardening and loss of flexibility. Aged hoses
are prone to cracking or brittle fracture during temperature
fluctuations. Regular inspection and replacement of coolant hoses
according to the vehicle manufacturer's maintenance manual is
generally recommended, as rubber gradually deteriorates and loses
performance even if hoses appear visually intact.
Among the above issues, coolant leaks and hose cracking/bulging are
the most common problems. If any of these abnormalities are
detected in the hoses, prompt repair or replacement is essential to
prevent severe consequences such as coolant loss and engine
overheating.
