Application:
The 2848A117 water temperature sensor is purpose-built for Perkins
4.236, T4.236 and AT4.236 turbocharged four-cylinder diesels (4.0
L) and is equally compatible with the 1004-4, 1004-4T, 1006-6 and
1006-6T engines. These power units are widely used across Massey
Ferguson 2400, 3400, 5400 and 6400 Series agricultural tractors,
combine harvesters, 40–150 kVA generator sets, tele-handlers,
skid-steer loaders and light construction machinery. In these
applications the sensor threads into the thermostat housing or
cylinder-head coolant gallery and continuously measures engine
coolant temperature, providing a precise resistance signal to the
engine control unit. This allows the ECU to adjust cold-start aids,
fuel injection timing and electric fan engagement so that optimum
combustion efficiency and emission compliance are maintained
whether the engine is warming up from sub-zero or operating under
sustained full load.
Technical specifications:
The unit is a brass-bodied NTC (negative-temperature-coefficient)
sensor with 3/8" BSPP male thread and 22 mm hex, 58 mm overall
length and 115 g mass. Its resistance decreases from 9.8 kΩ ±3 % at
25 °C to 180 Ω ±10 % at 100 °C, delivering a steep, repeatable
curve that the ECU can resolve to ±1 °C.
Material & performance features:
The sensing element is a glass-encapsulated NTC bead thermally
bonded to the brass probe tip for rapid heat transfer and long-term
stability. The body is nickel-plated for corrosion resistance and
over-moulded in high-temperature PPS resin, achieving IP67 ingress
protection. A fluorosilicone O-ring and integrated steel shield
prevent moisture ingress during thermal cycling from –40 °C to +120
°C.
