Polyoxyethylene (20) Sorbitan Monolaurate
Tween is a king of emulsifier, also called polyoxyethylene sorbitol
anhydride monooleate. This product is a light yellow to amber oily
liquid at room temperature. Slightly bitter, soluble in water,
ethanol, ethyl acetat, and toluen, insoluble in mineral oil and
vegetable oil.
Tween 80 is a kind of artificial non-ionic surfactant, which is
used as emulsifier, dispersant, wetting agent, solubilizer and
stabilizer. Widely used in medicine, food, cosmetics, chemicals,
printing and dyeing, and textiles.

Application

1. In the food industry: It is used as an O/W type food emulsifier,
either alone or in combination with Span-60, Span-65, and Span-80.
In the food industry, it is used as an emulsifier, dispersant for
ice cream, bread, pastries, candies, etc., and as a turbid agent
for refreshing beverages.
2. In the cosmetics field: As an emulsifier, it can evenly mix the
components of water and oil phases to prepare stable emulsion
products. In addition, the Tween 80 also has a penetration
enhancement effect, which helps to better deliver certain
components to the deep layers of the skin.
3. Coatings and inks industry: As a dispersant, it can evenly
disperse pigments in the matrix, enhancing the color stability and
texture uniformity of coatings and inks.
4. Metalworking lubricating oil: It is also applied in metalworking
lubricating oil and can improve the lubrication performance and
heat dissipation performance of the lubricating oil.
5. In the agricultural field: Tween 80 can be used as an antistatic
agent, as an oiling agent for nylon and viscose cord, and serves as
an intermediate for oiling agents in chemical fibers. During the
waterproofing process of fabrics, emulsifying silicone oil has a
good effect and is used as a water-soluble emulsifier, often mixed
with S-80.
6. Biotechnology and Laboratory Applications: The Tween 80 is also
widely used in biotechnology and laboratory applications.
