In the field of construction and building, the lightweight and
easy-to-transport feature of PP sheets (with a density of
approximately 0.91g/cm³, only 1/8 that of steel and 1/2 that of
wood) brings significant advantages in multiple links such as
transportation, construction, and cost, directly meeting the demand
for efficient operations in construction scenarios.
Transportation Advantage
From the perspective of transportation, a single PP sheet is light
in weight, allowing more sheets to be loaded onto the same
transportation equipment (such as trucks and construction
elevators). Compared with transporting steel, stone, or solid wood
panels of the same area, it can reduce the number of transportation
trips, lower fuel consumption and transportation costs. For
example, a small truck can load about 500㎡ of PP moisture-proof
sheets, while only 200-300㎡ of wood can be loaded in the same
space, increasing transportation efficiency by approximately 60%.
At the same time, its lightweight feature eliminates the need for
relying on large lifting equipment; it can be directly transported
to narrow areas such as high-rise building floors and basements by
manual handling or small carts, avoiding transportation route
restrictions caused by heavy materials. For instance, during
construction in old residential areas where large lifting equipment
cannot enter, PP sheets can be manually carried to high floors.
Safety Advantages
This lightweight property can also effectively reduce construction
safety risks and simplify the installation process. A single PP
sheet is usually only half the weight of a wood panel of the same
size (for example, a 1.2m×2.4m PP sheet weighs about 2.6kg, while a
wood panel of the same size weighs about 5-6kg). Construction
workers can carry and splice them individually without the need for
multi-person collaboration or lifting equipment, thereby reducing
safety hazards such as muscle strain, falls, and collisions caused
by carrying heavy objects. Moreover, the lightweight feature makes
on-site cutting and splicing of PP sheets more flexible—no
professional heavy-duty tools are required, and only ordinary
cutting knives can be used for processing. During installation,
there is no need for additional reinforcement of load-bearing
structures (for example, when installing a PP moisture-proof layer
on the wall, there is no need to pour load-bearing brackets in
advance; it can be directly fixed by bonding or snapping). Compared
with traditional heavy materials (such as cement boards and metal
plates), the construction time of a single process can be shortened
by 30%-50%.
