Function
1. Absorb the heat of low-temperature flue gas, reduce the exhaust
temperature, reduce the exhaust loss, and save fuel.
2. Because the feed water is heated in the economizer before
entering the steam drum, the heat absorption of the feed water on
the heating surface is reduced, and the economizer can be used to
replace part of the evaporation heating surface with high cost.
3. When the feed water temperature increases, the wall temperature
difference will be reduced when it enters the steam drum, and the
thermal stress will be reduced accordingly, prolonging the service
life of the steam drum.
Energy-saving principle
Add a reheating step to the cycle—it raises the average temperature
of heat absorption, which in turn boosts the cycle’s efficiency.
During the startup of a boiler (specifically a drum boiler), the
steam-water pipeline hasn’t started circulating yet. That means the
boiler feedwater is stagnant, and the water inside the economizer
isn’t flowing either. As boiler combustion ramps up and flue gas
temperature rises, the water in the economizer can easily
vaporize—leading to overheating in parts of the economizer.
To prevent this, a recirculation pipe is installed: it connects the
steam drum’s centralized drain pipe to the economizer’s inlet. This
keeps the water in the economizer flowing, stopping it from
vaporizing.
