1. Flexibility
Nylon: Highly flexible, capable of stretching up to 20% without losing strength. This elasticity makes it ideal for shock-absorbent applications like towing and mooring.
Polyester: Less flexible, with only about 10% stretch under pressure. Best suited for low-stress applications, such as flagpoles and tie-downs.
2. Absorbency
Nylon: Absorbs water quickly, which can weaken the rope and lead to sagging. It takes a long time to dry, making it less effective in wet conditions.
Polyester: Does not absorb water, maintaining strength even when wet. This characteristic makes polyester a better choice for marine environments.
3. Temperature Resistance
Nylon: Degrades at temperatures above 210°C, limiting its use in high-heat situations.
