How is silicon metal mined?
Silicon metal is an important metal material, mainly used in the
manufacture of optoelectronic devices, solar panels, fiber optic

includes two processes: ore mining and smelting.
Ore mining refers to the extraction of silicon metal ores from the
ground or surface through mining equipment and technology. Silicon
metal mainly exists in quartz ore, so mining usually selects quartz
ore deposits for mining. First, the mining company needs to explore
the mining area to find potential silicon metal deposits. Then, the
ore is mined using blasting techniques or mechanical equipment,
transported and sorted.
On top of ore mining, silicon metal smelting is the process of
purifying and extracting the silicon content from the silicon metal
ore. First, the ore is crushed, pulverized, and chemically leached
to extract the silicon from the quartz. Then, the purified silicon
is subjected to a reduction reaction to reduce the silicon to
silicon metal by the reduction method. Subsequently, the silicon
metal is obtained in a liquid state and can be subjected to
subsequent processes such as pumping, solidification and molding to
finally obtain the finished silicon metal.
It should be noted that the mining process of silicon metal needs
to take into account the protection of the environment and
resources. In the mining stage, effective dust control, water
washing, solid waste treatment and other measures need to be taken
to reduce the impact on the surrounding environment. In the
smelting process, it is necessary to do a good job in the treatment
and recycling of harmful waste gas to reduce the pollution of the
atmosphere.
