In an electrical generator or alternator, the brushes are critical
components that make electrical contact with the rotating part of
the generator, known as the rotor or armature. The brushes are
typically made of carbon or graphite and are responsible for
transferring electrical current from the rotor to the stationary
part of the generator, known as the stator.
As the rotor spins, the brushes maintain constant contact with the
slip rings or commutator on the rotor, allowing electrical current
to flow from the rotor windings to the stator windings. This
current is then converted into usable electrical power.
